Lab Resources
Hardware and software available
Software
The Linux installation is currently Suse 10.1. Windows is XP Professional. If you want anything special installed, let me or the lab consultants know and we will do out best to make everyone happy. On the Windows computers, we have three versions of Visual Studio (6.0, .NET 2003, and Visual Studio 2005). The older versions are there to support some existing projects. Do not waste your time and effort with them. If you are starting a new project, use the Visual Studio 2005. It works much better than the other versions.
We also have GCC installed on Windows along with QT4. There is a lot of other software installed such as Microsoft Office, Open Office, Visio, Photoshop, and Macromedia Studio among other things.
If you are interested, we have a membership in the Microsoft Developer Network Academic Alliance. What this means is we have the ability to get you your own copies of just about everything Microsoft sells except Office. You can get Office from Academic Computing. This is available for projects or your own system for learning. Of course this is not licensed for commercial use and is not to give out to others not taking classes.
Hardware
We have old computers around for evil experiments. We can set them up and you can install whatever you want to play with. Just remember, they are a shared resource. Someone else may do the same thing to them after you finish. If you need something set up for longer term, let me know and we can probably work something out.
